FAQ:
What is this?
This is a 50-minute mixtape created by myself, DJ Seith, called The Monk Mix. It’s comprised of over 150 snippets of jazz, fusion, funk, soul, R’n’B, rock, disco, and electro that has been sampled within the last 25 years of hip-hop, dance, pop, and rock music.
Why did you make this?
I have a deep love and respect for the music I listen to, and I think it’s important to know where it came from, no matter what type of music it is you listen to.
What song is that from? I know that song, but I can’t remember what it’s called or who it’s by!
There are over 150 sample sources in this mix, which clocks in at just under an hour in length. If there is enough interest in seeing a tracklisting, I will consider drafting one up.
Will there be a physical copy of this for purchase?
I hope to have physical copies with liner notes and cover art soon enough; however a solid date has not yet been set in stone.
This is great! Where can I hear more like this?
Check out the “Original” series of mixtapes by DJ Neil Armstrong, the “On Track” series of tapes by Kon and Amir, “Live From Brooklyn” parts 1 and 2 by DJ Riz, “Three Sinister Syllables” by Jay Glaze and Pro Celebrity Golf, “The Dusty Fingers Mix CD” by Danny Dan The Beat Mann, “Brainfreeze” and “Product Placement” by DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist, “Metamorphosis” by DJ Fuse One, and the masterful “Syndromes” series of tapes by J-Rocc. There are plenty more i’m sure i’m forgetting about right now, but that’s a start.
